Warbud wins silver medal in Dragon Boat Races

On Saturday, September 9, 2017, Warbud's rowing team won silver medal in the charity Dragon Boat Races organised on the Motława River in Gdansk. Even that they are not professional sportsmen, they covered the 200 m distance in only 55.02 seconds. The members of the 16-people team were Iwona Jabrocka-Talaśka, Przemysław Preiss, Agnieszka Sawicka-Kowlaska, Agnieszka Hefczyc, Wojciech Andrzejuk, Tomasz Wysocki, Andrzej Maczuga, Piotr Wdowiński, Konrad Parchem, Marcin Mozdzież, Aleksander Korzeb, Kamila Wójcik, Marcin Zapert, Sebastian Talaśka, Emil Hefczyc, Krzysztof Zaręba and Irina Lagonda. They left behind 6 other teams.

The race was a really special challenge. Each team raced at least twice. The rivalry was organised in a cup system with play-offs after the first race. Our oarsmen competed with representatives of the following companies: Sosnowski, Flügger, InterCars, Doraco, Laguna Medical, Centrum Techniki Okrętowej and editors of the web portal Trojmiasto.pl. We lost only with the Sosnowski company rowing team who reached the finish line in 52.8 s.

Each team has their helmsman and a drummer taking care of oarsmen synchronisation, but the result was not that important. The purpose of the race was much more interesting. A condition to take part in the race was to collect a certain sum of money which was then donated to J. Korczak Children's Home in Gdansk. Thanks to the support provided by race participants the institution will be able to pay for activities improving the sight and hearing of their pupils.
