New contract - International Congress Centre in Katowice

Warbud has signed a contract for the completion of construction works on a multi-purpose building of the International Congress Centre (MCK) in Katowice. The Employer is the City of Katowice.

The contract was signed on 29 May 2013 by Mr Włodzimierz Włodarczyk, Chairman of the Board and Mr Grzegorz Chudzik, Board Member, the Investor was represented by Mr Piotr Uszok - Mayor of Katowice and Ms Krystyna Siejna - Deputy Mayor.

Warbud took over the construction project by winning a tender after the Client, Katowice City Hall, terminated the construction contract with the previous contractor Polimex-Mostostal as a result of delays with respect to the project time schedule.

The contract encompasses the construction of the MCK building with internal installations, landscaping works and a passage connecting MCK with the Spodek (Saucer) Hall. Warbud's consortium partner - the company Mercury Engineering Polska Sp. z o.o. will be responsible for fitting sanitary installations.

The construction site is located between the Spodek Hall and the NOSPR building which is now being built by Warbud. The Centre is one of the three facilities now under construction in the area of the former Katowice coal mine. The MCK building will have the form of a rectangular prism with a green roof in the form of a mountain pass along which it will be possible to walk onto the other side of the building. The hall was designed by architects working for the JEMS Architekci design studio.

The International Congress Centre in Katowice will be a complex of conference rooms including a multi-functional hall for 12 thousand people. The building will also contain among others a restaurant for 800 people, a cafeteria, smaller restaurants and bars and a VIP hall. There will also be two substructure floors with technical rooms.
