Outlook for the construction industry in the EU

In the commentary to the report it is underlined that despite the decline in the European Union market, which has had a large impact on the construction industry in the last five years, the largest European construction firms have managed to increase their revenues in the year 2012 by an overall 7% to the level of EUR 335.5 bn.

It is also added that despite the expected 2.2 percent decline in the construction investment in the EU in 2013, growth by 1.4 percent is anticipated by the European Commission.

The results achieved by the construction industry in 2012 will still be impacted by the deficit-cutting policies implemented by the governments of the majority of the analysed countries. The majority of the European building powers are aiming at a minimisation of the negative impact of the economic and financial situation on their business operations. The firms have implemented diversification strategies allowing their sustainable growth and increase their traditionally low margins in construction projects on the basis of relations with current clients and long-term investment in infrastructural assets.
