Warbud engineers are rebuilding the road bridge over the Warta River in Kostrzyn nad Odrą.

First, a temporary crossing is being built, which will be launched opened during the demolition of the existing bridge and construction of the new bridge. This is what the construction team is focussing on today.

Rafał Chrostowski, Contract Manager at Warbud SA, reports that ‘By end of February, we had hammered all the steel pipes for the supports of the temporary bridge under construction into the bottom of the river. We completed that scope of work as scheduled and it was a key stage of the construction process, because from the beginning of March to the end of June, due to environmental restrictions, we are not allowed to carry out works which interfere with the river bed. The pipes were driven to the depth of approx. 6 m below the river bottom. All in all, it is almost 100 elements. We are currently assembling steel capping beams. They will soon support the load-carrying structure of the temporary bridge.

The construction of its supports will last at least until the end of April 2022. All works are carried out from the water level with the use of pontoons on which heavy equipment (i.e. cranes) is placed, as well as from barges and pushers for transporting materials by water. ‘Difficult water conditions, I mean the high water level in the basin of the Warta and Postomia rivers, have prevented us from starting the construction of an access embankment to the temporary bridge from the south. This stage of construction is still ahead of us,’ says R. Chrostowski.
