SARP Annual Awards Ceremony - Capitol Theatre among best building projects of the year 2013

Capitol Theatre in Wroclaw was awarded the "First Honourable Mention of the Annual Award given by the Association of Polish Architects SARP under the auspices of the President of Poland Mr. Bronisław Komorowski." The award ceremony was held on May 26 in SARP headquarters.

Warbud was represented by Mr. Tomasz Szubert, Contract Manager, who received that award accompanied by architects from KKM Kozień Architekci studio in Cracow and director of Capitol Theatre Mr. Konrad Imiela. The gala was attended by President of the Republic of Poland and a number of outstanding Polish architects.

Capitol Theatre was built by Warbud between April 2011 to July 2013. The awarded project is a delightful example of a combination of expressionism with art deco elements. In the second decade of the 20th century it was a jewel of Wroclaw expressionist architecture. After the rebuilding the old part of Capitol was preserved in a modern shape. The main stage and the hall have regained their pre-war climate. There are 725 seats in the main hall and 208 seats in the chamber hall. The theatre now has one of the most modern stages in Europe.

It should be added here that in yesterday's ceremony results of two editions of the Annual Award contests were announced - for the years 2012 and 2013 as well as of the Award of the Association of Polish Architects for the best architectural project built using public funds. The main awards were given to the European Centre of Krzysztof Penderecki Music in Lutosławice (2012) and the Museum of the History of Polish Jews in Warsaw (2013).

In last year's edition of the contest another building built by Warbud was nominated - the Plac Unii multi-purpose complex in Warsaw.

An exhibition of all the nominated and awarded 2012 and 2013 projects will be on display in SARP exhibition pavilion at 2 Foksal St. in Warsaw until June 3, between 10 and 18 hours.
