Summary of Safety Week 2021

The 8th edition of the "Safety Week", a huge undertaking to improve safety in construction, has come to an end. Warbud SA employees and subcontractors participated in the activities organized at construction sites.

The event was inaugurated at the construction site of the Hospital of Our Lady of Perpetual Help in Wołomin by Mr. Lech Wąsowski, Director of Centre Region, and Sebastian Lewiński, Deputy Director for Health and Safety. They unanimously emphasized that safety at construction sites is of paramount importance and following this year's slogan "Necessarily Safe" we should take care of safe behaviour not only at work, but also outside of it.

Activity overview

Webinars were very popular which were attended by nearly 250 Warbud employees. During trainings we talked about fall arrest equipment and scaffoldings. Drills in worksite evacuation, also with additional smoke in the rooms, were carried out on construction sites.

On the construction sites first aid workshops were also organised so that knowledge and practice go hand in hand in crisis situations.  Inspectors of the National Labour Inspectorate gave lectures on health and safety.

There were also a number of Quarters for Health and Safety. During meetings of directors with their employees and subcontractors, topics related to health and safety were discussed and causes of the alarming increase in accidents in 2021 in companies forming the Agreement for Safety in Construction were analysed. The trainers drew attention to the circumstances of the tragic events, in order to sensitize employees to the reality the accidents and the effects of omissions in the field of health and safety.

Demonstrations of suppliers and manufacturers of health and safety equipment and personal protective equipment on construction sites have become a "Safety Week" tradition. They constantly raise employee awareness, refresh knowledge about PPE and its adjustment to the workplace. The company Protekt focussed on demonstrations of the correct use of personal protective equipment against falling from a height, including evacuation of persons who fell outside floor slab edges. Workers tested glove resistance to cutting, the ability to catch objects and perform manual work after the gloves come into contact with oil. Meanwhile, representatives of supply companies also conducted trainings on the safe use of scissor lifts.
