VINCI Safety Days and PBB Safety Week on Warbud’s construction sites

The month of May 2023 was a proof that it is worth talking and doing as much as possible about safety. It was full of events regarding health and safety on all Warbud’s construction sites and offices. Thanks to the VINCI Group Safety Days organized in over 100 countries around the world and the Safety Week of the Agreement on Safety in Construction, we celebrated for the last two weeks the braves idea - the protection of the lives and health of our employees.

We focussed on unexpected and potentially dangerous events, as well as last-minute changes which are accounted for in the construction team's schedule. When they are not identified in due time, not followed by correct reactions and stoppage of work, they inevitably lead to accidents, including fatal ones. To better manage such events, we talked on our construction sites about strengthening the three pillars of our safety culture: transparency, exemplarity and dialogue.

In parallel to lectures given by directors of individual regions/branches, quarters for health and safety, demonstrations of equipment and skills, exercises and activities - also first aid drills were organised on the construction sites. Our employees secured the accident scene and then bravely rescued the victim using, among others, an AED external defibrillator. There were also presentations on the legal basis and psychological aspects of first aid, the safe lateral position and emergency conditions such as fainting, epilepsy, choking, stroke, heart attack and civilization diseases.

Our colleagues from construction sites in Kostrzyn and Poznań also invited children to popularize the idea of safety. After visiting the construction site of the Bridge in Kostrzyn over the river Odra, almost all children from Kindergarten No. 4 declared that they would become construction workers in the future.

The slogan "Stop has a power. I work with care without risking” accompanying the joint initiative of the Agreement on Safety in Construction (PBB) was developed not only during talks, presentations and by training materials, but also by the implementation of actions from the book of ideas for the Safety Week and a film campaign with the cartoon characters Foundation and Nail, who analysed workers’ behaviour in vertical and road transport operations as well as during planning. Thanks to them, we looked at both right and wrong attitudes which cannot be accepted on a construction site. The gadget of the campaign was the board game Dobble OHS.

Once again presidents of leading Polish construction companies, including Warbud SA, spoke with one voice promoting the idea of high safety standards, proving that there are no differences among us when it comes to recognizing safety as a priority.
