Warbud will build the seat of National Polish Radio Symphony Orchestra in Katowice
On February 13, 2012 Warbud signed a contract for the construction of the seat of National Polish Radio Symphony Orchestra in Katowice.

The Employer is the City of Katowice. The building contact was signed by City Mayor Mr Piotr Uszok accompanied by Ms Elżbieta Bieńkowska, Regional Development Minister and Ms Joanna Wnuk-Nazarowa, Orchestra Director. Warbud was represented by Board Members - Mr Grzegorz Chudzik and Mr Wojciech Gerber.

Warbud as leader of a consortium will implement this project together with its Partners: Przedsiębiorstwo Wielobranżowe "EBUD"- Przemysłówka Sp. z o.o. and LTT Sp. z o.o.

The building was designed by architect Tomasz Konior, who was present in the contract signing ceremony. The building is a fulfilment of musicians and music lovers’ dreams. The NOSPR seat will consist of three buildings. The building, which has a surprising form resembling a pile of scores, contains the main concert hall for 1800 listeners, backstage facilities for the orchestra and the necessary infrastructure for music lovers, namely a restaurant, music shop, children’s rooms and a jazz club. There will also be a chamber music hall in the building for approximately 300 listeners.

The large concert hall - the “heart” of the building, was designed as a box in a box, which means that the external hall structure will be completely separated from the remaining part of the building. The hall will be used for concerts of all types of symphony music, including those with an extended orchestra and a 120-person choir and the organs.

The concept of the building is based on the external structure of a three-storey frame. Between the external frame and the “heart” of the building there will be a glass roof which will allow light to penetrate the interior of the building.

The most important criterion which has decided about the selection of this particular design was the perfect acoustics of the building. This is the key factor for the project. The concert hall lined with birch wood and containing a 250 m2 stage will be equipped in multi-section movable plafond over the stage and movable doors to the so-called attenuation chambers behind listeners on balconies. This will allow to adjust hall acoustic properties to various musical forms, from solo concertos to large and monumental music forms. In the wall behind the stage, organ front will be situated. The Katowice seat of NOSPR will become a building with best acoustic properties in Poland thanks to the cooperation of its architect Tomasz Konior with the renowned Japanese firm Nagata Acoustic, which has in its portfolio the very successful projects implemented in Los Angeles, Helsinki and Copenhagen.

The exterior of the building will refer to the architecture of the Silesia region. Its facade will be lined with brick and similarly to Nikiszowiec - a historic housing estate for workers in Katowice - window recesses will be lined with red clinker brick. In front of the building a square with a fountain will be built. Next to the building there will be a two-hectare park and the building itself will be connected by a footbridge with International Congress Centre.

Warbud’s contract will also encompass landscaping works around the building, including the construction of an amphitheatre as well as circulation facilities and infrastructure with greenery.

The NOSPR building will certainly become an outstanding classical music promotion and development centre in Poland and outside its borders thanks to its exceptional technical and functional features.
