Warbud wins construction contract for Centre for Innovation and Research in Pro-Health and Safe Food in Krakow

Warbud has won a contract for the construction of a Centre for Innovation and Research in Pro-Health and Safe Food in Kraków. The project will be executed in the design and build formula. The investor is Hugo Kołłątaj Agricultural University in Krakow. The new centre will allow the university to increase its scientific activity and enable more intensive work on solutions which entrepreneurs are interested in using. The contract was concluded on August 31, 2020.  On behalf of Warbud, it was signed by: Mr. Grzegorz Koprowski, Director of Region South and on the part of the Contracting Authority by University Rector Prof. Włodzimierz Sady, PhD, Eng., and Bursar, Mr. Maciej Oleksiak, MA.

The investment will be built on a plot owned by the University of Agriculture located at Balicka St., adjacent to the Faculty of Food Technology and the Faculty of Production and Power Engineering. The seat of the Centre for Innovation and Pro-Health and Safe Food Research will have an area over 3.1 thousand sqm of space and will be provided with advanced research equipment - most modern devices in southern Poland.

The building is divided into two areas of scientific activity. The first one is aimed at cooperation with the food industry and commercialization of results of innovative (production) research. The second area will perform own (non-production) research.

The production part covers: A bakery and confectionery line with a warehouse and a mill; a microbrewery with a kibbling plant, a warehouse and a beer storage room; meat line with storage and fish line; laboratories: sensory with prepress and HPLC MS-MS; microbiological, analytical and waste processing laboratories; modular equipment rooms. In addition, the Centre will also contain two conference rooms, quiet work rooms, cloakrooms and a server room.

In the non-production part there will be laboratory complexes, i.e.: Bioreactors; lines for the production of juices, beverages and wines with wine storage room and a milk warehouse. There will be the following laboratories: gastronomy, nutrigenomics, proteomics, histology, primary cells, highly specialized analytical techniques (odour analyser, preparation rooms) laboratories; physical modification, drying and recovery of health-promoting substances, extrusion and pressing, sorting, packaging, packaging and labelling of raw materials and products, storage, automation of technological processes laboratories.

Thanks to well-equipped rooms, scientists will have an opportunity to conduct research, e.g. in the field of food production which is richer in nutrients and free of allergens, creating new systems for food packaging and storing and processing waste from the food industry. The centre will be completed in autumn 2022.
