We will build a tunnel under Railway Line No. 2 in Wesoła

Yesterday, on April 10, at the seat of the Capital City Development Authority, we signed a contract for the construction of a tunnel under Railway Line No. 2 Warsaw - Terespol in Wesoła. The contract was signed on behalf of the Investor by Daniel Boruchalski - Deputy Regional Director of PKP Polskie Linie Kolejowe SA and Ewelina Degowska - Director of the Capital City Development Authority, and on behalf of our company by Nicolas Dépret - President of WARBUD SA Management Board and Kamil Simka, Managing Director and Vice-President of the Management Board of EUROVIA Polska. WARBUD SA will execute the project with the participation of EUROVIA Polska.

The new investment to be executed by our companies us will reduce traffic congestion in the Wesoła district by shortening the travel time across the railway tracks and increase safety of road and rail traffic. It will also allow the railway line to be modernised and to increase train speeds.

About the Project

  • The tunnel is approximately 189 m long with the access ramps which will be built at the axis of 1 Praskiego Pułku St. in Warsaw. It will be a single-tube structure with a two-lane roadway. It will contain a one-sided sidewalk and a bicycle lane. There will be lifts for people with limited mobility. On the western side of the tunnel, we will build two new railway platforms. The investment also means the rebuilding of the road system.
  • Three roundabouts will be built: the first at the intersection of 1 Praskiego Pułku, Władysława Sikorskiego and Jana Kilińskiego streets; the second at Okuniewska St. on the west side of the tunnel, while the third roundabout will connect 1 Praskiego Pułku St. with the Plac Wojska Polskiego housing estate.
  • Okuniewska, Głowackiego and Miła streets will also be rebuilt. A connecting road will be built between Miła and Głowackiego streets. At Okuniewska St. bus stops, pedestrian areas and elevators will be built. A bus terminus is designed on the east side of the tunnel.
  • The project also includes the construction of complete underground infrastructure and the necessary utility networks – gas, sanitary, water, sewage and storm water, telecommunications, electricity lines, as well as development of the external areas, construction of street lighting and a local above-ground car park.

The companies Certus Via Sp. z o.o. and TPF Sp. z o.o. are responsible for developing the project documentation. The works are scheduled for completion in 28 months. The project will be ready in the second half of the year 2027. We will start construction work within two months of signing the contract. First of all, a temporary railway crossing will be built at Żółkiewskiego St., a pedestrian crossing over the railway line on the eastern side of the Warszawa Wesoła railway stop and a temporary platform on the track towards Rembertów.
