CZAJKA SEWAGE TREATMENT PLANT

The expansion and modernisation of 'Czajka' sewage treatment plant was Poland's largest environmental protection project. The 'design and build' contract was implemented on the basis of the yellow FIDIC book. After its completion the capacity of the plant was increased to more than 435 000 cubic metres per day. The project encompassed the construction or upgrading of nearly 150 structures in an area with size equivalent to 100 football pitches. In order to build it we used 250 000 m³ of concrete, that it four times more than was needed to build the Palace of Culture and Science in Warsaw. We also used 22 000 tons of reinforcing steel - which is three times more than for the Eiffel Tower and 3 000 tons of structural steel. The cubic volume of the earth works amounted to 800 000 m³.
