On Monday, June 19, work will start in Saska Kępa district related to strengthening the embankment located in the area of Bajońska St. The protection will allow Warbud to start rebuilding of the first northern viaduct in July. The works scheduled for Monday require the closure of the internal lanes of the Trasa Łazienkowska road over Bajońska and Paryska Streets for approximately two weeks.
In Saska Kępa, preparations are underway to start the modernization of the viaducts of Trasa Łazienkowska located over Bajońska and Paryska Streets, and to install noise protection systems in Stanów Zjednoczonych Avenue.
On Monday, June 19 at 22:00, the inner lanes on both viaducts of Trasa Łazienkowska over Bajońska and Paryska Streets will be closed for traffic. Two lanes in each direction will remain passable - one for individual drivers and the bus lane. Such traffic organization will be in force for about two weeks and will enable work to be carried out related to strengthen the embankment located in the area of Bajońska St. Then the demolition and rebuilding of the viaducts will start.
Demolition of the first viaduct will start in July
The viaduct on the north side will be the first to be modernized. Its closure is scheduled in the first half of July. Two-way traffic for individual vehicles will then be introduced on the southern carriageway of Stanów Zjednoczonych Avenue - from the area of the Wystawowy Canal to the area of the Łazienkowska road viaducts over Wał Miedzeszyński.
Places where individual vehicles and buses will pass through the lane separating the carriageways have been made as ties which are ready now in four locations: in the area of the Wystawowy Canal, Międzynarodowa St, Saska St and in the area of the Trasa Łazienkowska viaducts over Wał Miedzeszyński St.
During the modernization of the first viaduct - excluding the period necessary to replace the pavement - buses will continue to travel towards city centre along the northern road to the Saska stop. Then they will cross to the south side and the other viaduct located there.
Switch from Łazienkowska to Siekierkowska
During the rebuilding of the viaducts of the Łazienkowska road over Bajońska and Paryska streets, Siekierkowska Road will be the main detour. In order to make it easier for drivers leaving the Siekierkowska Road to join Wał Miedzeszyński, an additional lane was built along Wał Miedzeszyński towards city centre.
Better acoustic climate and more greenery
The modernization of the viaducts of Trasa Łazienkowska in Saska Kępa means the construction of two new road viaducts over Bajonska and Paryska streets. The project also aims to reduce road noise in the area of Stanów Zjednoczonych Avenue. Along the section from Bajońska St. to Międzynarodowa St sound screens will be built and the road surface will be replaced with a quiet one.
Thanks to the new lights and changes in signage, the road will become safer. Over 70 trees will also be planted which, together with the trees already growing, will form rows on both sides. Nearly 15,000 additional shrubs, numerous perennials, vines and lawns will be planted.
The need for modernization
Trasa Łazienkowska viaducts over Paryska and Bajońska streets have been in use since 1974 and as a result of their poor technical condition they require reconstruction. WARBUD is general contractor of the construction works whose overall cost amounts to PLN 88.7 million. The project is scheduled for completion in mid-2025.
The modernization of viaducts over Paryska and Bajońska streets is the next stage of the Łazienkowska road rebuilding project. Previous stages involved the rebuilding of the Łazienkowski bridge burnt in 2014, flyovers at the junctions with Wisłostrada and Wał Miedzeszyński streets, and the viaduct at Przyczółek Grochowski. At present two viaducts at Agrykola Park are being rebuilt and will be completed in March 2024.
The project is co-financed from the state budget in the amount of PLN 101,159,257.40 under the Polish Governance Fund: Strategic Investment Program. The estimated total value of the project is PLN 106,483,428.84.
