Title 'Building Project of the Year' awarded to 'Łukasiewicz' Subcarpathian Science Centre

The golden statuette and the title "Building Project of the Year 2022" for the construction of PCN Łukasiewicz were collected by Mr. Paweł Kiwak, Project Manager, and Mr. Maciej Kurowski, Site Manager. The award granted to Warbud honours the 33-month work of our staff and at the same time confirms that our project was among Poland’s best development projects in the last year.

The gala took place on September 19, 2023 in Warsaw. Ms. Ewa Mańkiewicz-Cudny, President of the Federation of Scientific and Technical Associations of the Chief Technical Organization, emphasized during the ceremony that all creators of construction works which serve the society should be properly awarded. Engineers and the entire construction industry are the creators of civilization. ‘I wish you to remain in the memory of your successors and users for a long time,’ she concluded her speech to the numerous guests.

The competition of the Polish Association of Construction Engineers and Technicians has been recognized by the industry for 33 years. These awards are given by the construction industry in which the contestants operate. And it is really demanding. Competition jury assesses the quality of the works, building solutions and their technical complexity, organization of the construction process, project financing and the impact of the investment on the environment.

The winning project in brief

“Łukasiewicz” Subcarpathian Science Centre is a facility whose architectural form resembles a planetary orbit or a DNA helix. The elliptical shape of the building was achieved thanks to a precise assembly of steel structure elements, each of which was different from the neighbouring one: a different angle of inclination, a coherent line. It is their arrangement which makes the facility so visually attractive. In total, approximately 106 tons of steel were built into the Centre structure. Thanks to the skylight placed in the central and top part of the structure, daylight enters the single-space circular lobby, illuminating the exhibitions. The facility has an observation deck located at a height of over 17 m. It is from here that visitors can observe the nearby Rzeszów-Jasionka Airport. The Centre’s educational function is extremely important, it is supposed to inspire, develop people, encourage them to experiment, ask questions and seek answers. Not only residents of Podkarpacie but also guests from all over Poland can experience this. The mission of the Centre is to show the world in three areas: ‘We-people’, ‘The world around us’ and ‘Our civilization.’ The four-storey facility - with 3 floors above-ground and 1 underground - houses nearly 200 interactive exhibits. The exhibition space is over 3 thousand square metres. The building's cubic capacity is over 39,000 m3.
